Freedom of Speech & Press

WHY THIS MATTERS
Public Broadcasting
-
And partisan noise, Public Broadcasting – NPR and PBS – stands as a vital beacon of truth, education, and unbiased reporting. For decades, it has served as the quiet bedrock of an informed citizenry, delivering fact-checked news, groundbreaking documentaries, and enriching educational content to every corner of our nation, regardless of zip code or economic status.
-
In the first 100 days, we've seen:
Relentless Funding Attacks: Despite providing immense public value at a minuscule cost per taxpayer, there are ongoing, politically motivated attempts to strip public broadcasting of its federal funding. This isn't about fiscal responsibility; it's about silencing independent voices.
Baseless Accusations of Bias: Without evidence, these trusted institutions are routinely targeted with unfounded accusations of partisan bias, aimed at eroding public trust in their credibility and justifying defunding efforts.
The War on Information: The attacks on NPR and PBS are part of a broader strategy to control narratives and limit access to diverse, fact-based information. When reliable sources are undermined, the door is opened wider for propaganda and manufactured outrage.
Undermining Community Connection: Beyond national news, public broadcasting offers local programming, fostering community dialogue and shared understanding, something increasingly vital in a fractured society. Attacks on it are attacks on local connection.
It is imperative to defend the fundamental right to access unbiased information, to foster critical thinking, and to ensure that all Americans, especially those in underserved areas, have a reliable source of news and education.
When public broadcasting is threatened, so too is the very fabric of an informed democracy. Because the truth, like our liberty, is not negotiable.
